Val, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbour, who lived and loved in the Chapeltown area for over 30 years.
Hers was a life defined by the love she had for each and everyone of us and we felt completely connected by it and to each other through her.
We want to celebrate her life to the fullest and would ask you to post your remembrances, light a candle or just take a few moments to reflect on the way Val touched your life.
Val did low and high "brow" in equal measure - from Coronation Street to Cranford, from Catherine Cookson to Jane Austen and everything in between!
She loved tennis and even understood the scoring regime! Saturday's were always a girls day. Four generations of women in one house for over 3 hours....Val was always on the side of the youngest generation (not that we 'oldies' are complaining).
She loved the countryside and her greatest regret in later years was that she was no longer able to drive her VW Polo (slighly precariously) to stately homes or stunning parkland.
We miss her dreadfully but are grateful for the memories she passed on, which connect us to our heritage. A wonderful, strong, loving and loved person.
Thank you Val for your legacy. For your grandchildren who because of you have memories which connect them to other lives they would otherwise only read about in history books and for all of us who knew and loved you.
A hard act to follow. You were our beacon - who will guide us now?

Last word here mum. It was your funeral today and your girls were strong as we always are. You would have been so proud of all of us.
This is a personal message to my daughters, grand daughters and my daughter in law - you were phenomenal - thank you. Your support of me, our family and of each other was something that would not have been possible without mum's inspiration.
We thought that we would post a picture of another wonderful lady..Cookie....the wonder hound (not as sad as she actually looks here)!
Night mum - love you always. You live on in all of us.
It was your funeral today nan...everyone was there - all the people you loved and who loved you and if people couldn't attend, they sent their best wishes. We think that you would have been proud of all of us - you always were. Gracie helped me read a poem (she held my hand), Mum said hello to everyone and we had a wonderful singer who played your favourite songs. No jazz hands, but a fabulous show for a fabulous lady.
Bye nan...off to Bristol now. Will take my rose to remember you by. x x x x x x x x
Thank you for all your love, kindness, generosity and support over the years Nan. You were a rock to me when I needed your support and I will always have special memories of my time spent with you (and your tinned carrots!) Love always Nan, rest in peace. James and Cat xxxxx
We think of you with pride and joy. We're sad now, but every thought of you still brings a smile. Your strength and determination to remain independent has inspired four generations of women and girls, for whom Saturday's are now much diminished.
