I have only just seen this and are so very sad to hear the news. We never met Valerie but spoke on the phone. John stayed with us at St Bernards Guesthouse in Newquay for many years and remember him fondly x
I wanted to say to Valerie that contrary to what she said, dachshunds never win Crufts well its finally happened.
I only hope that she can see this from above and feel very proud of the breed.
My late husband and I had the pleasure of being introduced to our standard wire haired in 1981. He was an utter delight to have called Chester. I am so sorry to hear that Valerie is no longer here. Love to her family
We were so sad to hear of the passing of Valerie. We first met her in 1994. My husband and I drove from north of Glasgow to Sheffield to bring home our first Wire-haired Dachshund Angus. Ten and a half years later we sadly lost Angus to heart disease. We had two and a half year old twins, yet our house felt empty. Valerie came to the rescue with Louie, another wire-haired. Louie will be 13 tomorrow. Valerie was truly devoted to Dachshunds and for that, we shall be forever grateful.
